For Pre-Fall 2023, Givenchy looks to traverse from “city to sand,” in a new swim- and beachwear capsule, titled “Givenchy Plage.”

The range looks to Hubert de Givenchy’s seaside estate, Le Clos Fiorentina, in Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, for a sartorial start. There, the House founder’s refined lifestyles and the property’s soft color palette inform the collection’s seasonal ready-to-wear styles and essential accessories.

“The light is different in the South of France: Monsieur de Givenchy loved Le Clos Fiorentina for its protected, natural beauty and a relaxed elegance that was a world away from his busy life in Paris,” said creative director Matthew M. Williams. “For Givenchy Plage, I wanted to explore that lifestyle through light and color, especially the pearly pink façades that are so typical of that region.”

Entering the archives, Williams discovered photographs of the founding designer’s first-ever swimwear silhouettes, which appeared during a New York show in 1952, the same year the House debuted its inaugural Haute Couture collection. Garnering widespread acclaim for his beachside cuts, Hubert de Givenchy continued to present swim-ready ensembles from that collection forth.

This collection lets the past and present converge, with House staples including bold cut-outs, beach club attire, quintessential sailor stripes, and pearls. In addition to vivid pinks, the color palette relies on black and white, while two decades-old prints — trompe l’oeil pearls on a caftan and a pale gray design inspired by ID necklaces — reappear. Linen is woven into bikinis and coverups in black and beige, and sportswear-leaning carryalls in raffia, 4G sneakers and bob hats fulfill wardrobe requirements.

For the beach club, Givenchy offers white pajama separates, resort-ready tops and blue T-shirts and shorts composed of regenerative cotton poplin and linen. Completing the collection, new iterations of the Hpouse’s 4G Plumetis jewelry, including a bracelet, a ring and earrings, arrive in pink bio-resin with violent Swarovski crystals.
