IWC Announces Its New Ingenieur Automatic 40
Drawing inspiration from Gérald Genta’s Ingenieur SL from 1976.
It’s been quite the hectic week for watch enthusiasts, collectors, retailers and manufacturers as an overflow of announcements and reveals have transpired from Watches and Wonders 2023. One label that has gotten in on the action is IWC who has just officially revealed its newest Ingenieur Automatic 40 timepiece.
The new watch is designed to be as close to Gérald Genta’s original ref. 1832 Ingenieur SL from 1976. It is engineered with a 40mm stainless steel case that is locked in with five polygonal screws which are both technical and functional given that they remain in the same exact place across its production. There are also guards that protect the crown — an element that the original was. missing. Bezels are formed from solid metal and bear hand-polished and satin-finished surfaces. A fresh “grid” texture adds visual depth to the dial, and it comes in a trio of colorways including black, silver and aqua. Bracelets are pieced together with h-links and come secured by a butterfly folding clasp.
