IDK Reveals His Nike Air Max 97 "Free Coast" F&F Collab
The.rapper implements Ghana and Sierra Leone’s flag colors as a reminder to never forget where you come from.
As a native of Prince George’s County, Maryland, IDK has always represented the Swoosh with his footwear choices. As he started to garner a bigger fan base within music, the rapper earned himself a new deal with Nike back in 2021 and went on to work on limited-edition collaborations atop silhouettes like the Nike Blazer Mid and the Air Force 1 Low. Fast forward to present day, he’s now unveiled his latest creation with the Beaverton sportswear giant: the IDK x Nike Air Max 97 “Free Coast” friends and family collab.
The stand-out component of the kicks is the pink, blue, teal and volt gradient strip that wraps around the middle of the shoes and lands on the tongues. This is assemblage fuses the flag colors of Ghana and Sierra Leone, the former being the destination where slaves were taken from West Africa to America while the latter is where slaves were freed. It is implemented to call awareness to the history of African Americans and speaks to IDK’s message to never forget where you come from. Additionally, the kicks come packaged in special metallic silver wrap and feature gradient insoles that split between a star on the right shoe and a Nike logo on the left.
IDK pulled up to his old high school to reveal the friends and family sneakers and speak on a panel in front of its students.
