Action Bronson's New Balance 990v6 "Lapis Lazuli" Is Releasing
Denim-colored overlays and two-toned midsoles arrive on the rapper’s next team-up.
UPDATE: It’s finally time for the Action Bronson x New Balance 990v6 “Lapis Lazuli” to land on shelves with the rapper teasing an imminent release. Look for it, and complementary apparel, to release on June 22 via specializinginlife.com. It’ll then receive a wider release via the New Balance webstore June 30.
“It’s hard when you’re trying to create something,” said Bronson of the shoe “It’s best when things just happen. They just fall into place where they must be and the Lapis Lazuli is a perfect example of this. It’s high elegance, thoughtful, harmonious. It’s like the Japanese practice of placing flowers, twigs and everything in its own nature around it in a very gorgeous and artistic way. Just pleasing to the eye. This shoe is aesthetically pleasing with every line drawn. Every little edge. The fluorescents that are hitting me from every angle. I see 15 different blues on there, [though we only used] seven blues. This is like a mineral that’s been forming over millions and millions of years and has finally just been released through chisel. It’s been unchiseled from the depths of the rock. And now it’s here. It’s the perfect vehicle for your foot. Did I mention that there’s like 15 different blues on here? Purple is blue. It’s city boy blues. This is what happens. This is what happens when you’re from Queens.”

UPDATE: After teasing an on-foot look last month, Action Bronson has just provided official images of his forthcoming New Balance 990v6 “Lapis Lazuli” collaboration. Official release information is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.

Collaborations continue to play a significant role in New Balance‘s continued success story, and after recently flexing recent projects with the likes of AURALEE and Miu Miu, the Boston sportswear imprint is now bringing our attention back to its partnership with Action Bronson. The rapper, wrestler and chef is already expected to release his forthcoming New Balance 990v6 “Baklava” colorway to the masses, but now we’re learning that a second “Lapis Lazuli” colorway is in order given that he just teased them via Instagram.
The on-foot shot of Bronson rocking the pair isn’t taken at the closest range, but we can get a good feel of the pair’s vivid palette along with collaborative apparel that he confirms Teddy Santis assisted in bringing to life. Pigskin suede forms the lifestyle kicks’ overlays and gets flooded with a denim-esque blue and this is complemented by silver “N” logos on the lateral and medial panels and navy blue toe boxes and side panels. Tongues carry over the “Baklava” branding and get backdropped in baby blue while the laces are done up with a golden brown finish to match up with the underfoot. Furthermore, the midsole pieces have been coated with a creamy finish to round off its design.
There’s no word on an official launch date just yet, but expect Action Bronson and New Balance to confirm more details in the coming months.
