Kevin Hart Reminisces His Watch Collecting Journey With Hodinkee
Highlighting significant timepieces from Audemars Piguet, Rolex, and more.
The latest guest to appear on Hodinkee’s radio show is Kevin Hart. The Hodinkee Radio Presents: The Collector’s Edition with Ben Clymer series was first launched in 2022, with the first installment featuring Ed Sheeran. In this 23-minute-long video, the multi-hyphenate sat down with Ben Clymer, ‘s founder to open up on his watch-collecting journey.
Clymer introduced Hart as a “watch world kind of hero,” highlighting how he’s always sporting great timepieces from Audemars Piguet, Patek Philippe, to Rolex almost every single day. When asked about how he got into watches, Hart says “I fell in love with the idea of time. What I started to do was associate watches with the work that I was doing.” He elaborates on he he’d treat himself to a timepiece after completing every project as a means to define the value of his hard work.
The first watch to give Hart a sense of elevation was the Rolex Submariner. He explains how he’d likened the fact that it’s a stainless steel build, and that its subtle design is perfect for wearing every day. His love for Rolex continues, and Hart even gifted himself a Daytona for his 25th birthday. He was then introduced to the world of AP through Jay-Z, whom he also picked up on Patek and Richard Mille from.
Hart’s first Royal Oak from AP is the rose gold Offshore Chronograph, which he bought after The Big House. To this day, Hart still holds the piece in high regard, describing it as a “significant stamp” to prove that one can be successful within the entertainment industry without concealing their authenticity.
Midway through the video, the multi-hyphenate shed light on how he accidentally made the black ceramic Royal Oak Selfwinding Chronograph “50th Anniversary” the “hottest watch in the world.” Other highlights include Hart’s affiliation with the AP x Marvel Royal Oak Concept Black Panther Flying Tourbillon, which was created in tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman.
