Following last year’s announcement that Bruce Willis will be retiring from acting due to a diagnosis of aphasia, the family has now confirmed that they have received further news regarding his diagnosis.

The Willis/Moore family has posted a statement reading, “Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD). Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis.”

Daughter Rumer Willis also confirmed the diagnosis on her Instagram. Frontotemporal dementia is often diagnosed at a younger age than those with other forms of dementia. Symptoms include personality changes, speech difficulty and motor impairment. This type of dementia is a cause of 10-20% of all dementia diagnoses. Bruce first started acting in the early 1980s, playing roles in films like Blind Date, The Verdict and Sunset. He is famously known for starring in the Die Hard sequels and has had over four decades of acting. His films have grossed over $5 billion USD worldwide in the span of his career.

Take a look at Rumer’s statement below.

In case you missed it, Netflix’s You receives a mysterious new trailer for Part 2 of the series.
