Louis Vuitton Is the Official Trophy Trunk Partner for the Australian Open
The French luxury label crafted two bespoke trunks to house the tennis tournament’s men’s and women’s trophies.
Louis Vuitton has crafted two bespoke trophy trunks for the Australian Open, which is scheduled to commence in Melbourne on January 14.
The signature trunks will house the tennis tournament’s two major trophies: the Daphne Akhurst Memorial Cup for women and the Norman Brookes Challenge Cup for men. They’ll both be on display at the beginning of the women’s and men’s finals on January 27 and 28.
Handcrafted by Louis Vuitton’s artisans in the House’s historic Asnières workshops outside of Paris, the trunks feature wooden frames, classic lozine leather trims and brass corner protectors. The brand’s monogram appears all over the construction, broken only by a bold white “V” motif, which stands for both “Victory” and “Vuitton.” Working closely with Tennis Australia, Louis Vuitton finished the refined trunks with blue microfiber that nods to the Open’s blue courts and an Australian Open logo on the underside of the lid.
“Louis Vuitton is renowned for creating iconic trunks and we are delighted with the stunning hand-crafted custom trunks created for our historic Australian Open trophies,“ said Craig Tiley, Tennis Australia CEO. “The Australian Open and Louis Vuitton both share a commitment to unparalleled excellence and innovation, while retaining great respect for history, tradition and the celebration of legendary achievement and skill.“
Pietro Beccari, chairman and CEO of Louis Vuitton, added, “For more than 170 years, the Maison has been creating trunks that embody excellence, creativity and audacity, all values we share with the world’s greatest sporting events.“
