Sony Reveals the PlayStation 5 Slim
The compact gaming system will launch this November.
Sony has confirmed that the PlayStation 5 Slim will launch this November, just in time for the holiday season. The all-new gaming console employs the same technology as the PS5 with sizable weight and volume reductions, in an effort to “address the evolving needs of players,” per Sony’s senior director of content communications, Sid Shuman.
“Our engineering and design teams collaborated on a new form factor that provides greater choice and flexibility,” Shuman said. “The same technology features that make PS5 the best to play are packed into a smaller form factor, along with an attachable Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive and a 1TB SSD for more internal storage.”
The PS5 Slim boasts a volume reduction of 30% and a weight reduction of 18% and 24%, when compared to older models. The device features four separate cover panels, with a glossy finish on the top component. Along with the standard model, Sony will put out a digital-only edition, with the option to add on a separate Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive for $79.99 USD. Additionally, the company has crafted several PS5 covers for the new console, as well as horizontal and vertical stands.
The latest PS5 model will be available to shop in the U.S. this November at select retailers on Sony’s webstore. The PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive will be priced at $499.99 USD, while the PS5 Digital Edition will go for $449.99 USD. Take a closer look at the device in the gallery above.
