Nintendo finally closed the eShops of both the 3DS and Wii U earlier this year as the two devices launched 12 and just under 11 years ago respectively. With all eyes on the Switch (and its soon-to-be-announced successor), the company’s latest step away from the past is the announcement of both the 3DS and Wii U having their online services shut down.

In a brief article about the move, Nintendo shared that “In early April 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication will end for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U software. This also includes online co-operative play, internet rankings and data distribution.” However, it was noted that Pokémon Bank, the service that allows Pokémon trainers to transfer Pokémon from old games to new ones, will continue to operate for the time being.

Stay tuned for confirmation regarding a specific final date of online services on the 3DS and Wii U as one has not yet been disclosed by Nintendo.
