Danny Boyle, the director of iconic movies such as 28 Days LaterTrainspotting, and Slumdog Millionaire, is bringing a large-scale, immersive performance-based take of The Matrix to Manchester this month.

Titled Free Your Mind, the show is directed by Danny Boyle and forms part of Factory International’s — a new event venue in Manchester for music, performing, and visual arts — upcoming program of events, and is created especially for the official opening of Aviva Studios, Manchester’s new cultural venue.

Premiering on Wednesday, October 18, Free Your Mind is a “dramatic retelling” of the classic 1999-released sci-fi film through dance, music, and visual effects. Additionally, Boyle will bring together the visceral movement of choreographer, Kenrick “H2O” Sandy with a powerful score from renowned composer Michael “Mikey J” Asante (co-founders and artistic directors of the Olivier award-winning Boy Blue), large-scale stage sculptures by world-leading designer, Es Devlin, and the work of the acclaimed writer, Sabrina Mahfouz.

What’s more, is that the show has been created for the city of Manchester, the birthplace of the world’s first industrial revolution. Free Your Mind will explore where the digital revolution has the power to take over the world — by taking a journey from 1999, the year The Matrix was first released, through to the present day.

Free Your Mind will be open from October 18 and runs until November 5 at Aviva Studios, Water St, Manchester, M3 4JQ.

In other news, Netflix is developing a John F. Kennedy series.
