Dsquared2 FW23 Takes Geeks, Goths and It-Boys to the Rodeo
With Western fringed coats, leather chaps, distressed denim and cheeky trucker hats.
Following a vintage-inspired Pre-Fall 2023 collection in November, Dsquared2 took to the Milan Fashion Week stage on Friday to present a Fall/Winter 2023 collection that is unapologetically maximalist. Underscored by Y2K-inspired silhouettes and Western design codes, the personality-packed range showcases designers Dean and Dan Caten’s penchant for individualism, with oftentimes-scandalous cuts that fall under practically every style archetype.
Ready for a high-fashion rodeo, models enter wearing colorful cowboy boots, structured flannels and multi-toned denim pants fronting star-shaped knees. Large tops pair nicely with small bottoms and vice versa, while chaps, done in leather and shearling alike, layer over denim in some ensembles and leave less to the imagination in others. Additionally, traditional varsity jackets receive the Western treatment with bouncy, fringe detailing, which also appears on denim jackets, striped button-down shirts and leather coats with shearling collars.
Prep makes a subtle appearance, specifically among embossed trench coats, patterned sweaters, collared shirts and cardigans; and pukish looks offer a stark contrast, with matching black leather sets and tank tops reading “Chic F*cker.” Hats are perfectly kitschy, with statements reading “24-7 Star,” “F*ckin’ Freezing,” “Recycled Teenager” and “Oops, We Did It Again,” and more often than not, belts boast campy central branding on their buckles.
