Sunday night VFILES hosted a special NYFW event in NYC in partnership with the Hard Rock Hotel dubbed “VFILES ROCKS”. Meant to showcase young artists, designers, and creatives, a series of star-studded performances took place alongside a fashion show. Hosted by founder Julie Anne Quay, the goal of the event was to raise awareness of the VFILES Foundation, an organization that aims to increase business ownership for creators in underrepresented communities by providing grants, mentorship, and skills training. Mirroring the values of its foundation, VFILES built a diverse line-up of acts such as Baby Tate, Cash Cobain, Chow Lee, Doechii, Pheelz, Tweek Tune, King of Spank, Gabe Stone Shayer, Del Water Gap, and DJ Hank Korsan.
“It was so exciting to be back at Fashion week doing what we do best; challenging the status quo and pushing the barriers of what a fashion show is and even more what fashion is in 2022. Music has always been the voice of VFILES. Tonight we started a sustainability conversation. It is a complex one and something that VFILES Foundation plans to explore deeply with future Lab and product development in 2023.” said Quay.
Mixing pop-culture and fashion, the performers were paired with a designer or dressed in vintage to highlight sustainability. Featuring young designers such as Dr X Romanelli, MENYELEK, Ari Serrano, Courtney MC, Kid Super, KARMA, Misora Nakamori, KOZABURO, DR NOKI alongside vintage pieces sourced by What Goes Around Comes Around. The attendees came to impress and were seen dressed in different styles from grudge punk to all-pink monochrome ensembles. The show opened with DJ Hank Korsen, known for his electrifying sets and mixes, and was followed by artist Del Water Gap accompanied by American Ballet Theatre’s Gabe Stone Shayer. It took an upbeat turn when female artists Baby Tate, Doechii and Nigerian singer Phleez performed their individual sets. Closing the show were sample drill artists Cash Cobain and Chow Lee, who performed songs off their most recent album “2 Slizzy 2 Sexy (Deluxe)”, which left the crowd feeling amped and exhilarated. The event brought together industry figures like B Lovee, Isaiah Rashad, Kali, Lil Pump and more to truly celebrate New York City culture.
Previously in the week, VFILES opened a 3-day long pop-up in collaboration with Jaded London. The UK based brand took over the store and joined forces to design a collection of exclusive merch that was only available in store. Designing of the store’s interior such as the walls and displays, had double logo branding and made visitors feel as if they had been transported to the city of London. The two brands offered a space for video games and customization of iron-on jerseys, while the merch consisted of t-shirts, classic football scarves, hoodies, jeans, boxers, backpacks, hats and many other types of souvenirs decorated with the British flag. All proceeds made were directed to the VFILES Foundation.
