Steven Yeun Joins Cast of Bong Joon-ho’s ‘Mickey7’ Adaptation
The actor and director worked together on 2017’s ‘Okja.’
Steven Yeun has joined the cast of Bong Joon-ho’s new sci-fi flick. The movie, which has yet to receive a title, is based on Edward Ashton’s 1918 novel Mickey7.
The film follows Mickey7, an expendable employee sent on a mission to colonize the ice planet Niflheim. When he ultimately dies on the expedition, he wakes up as a clone and retains most of his memories. Upon returning to his mission base, however, he discovers that a new clone named Mickey8 has taken his place.
Yeun and Bong previously worked together on 2017’s Okja, where Yeun played K, an animal-rights activist.
Bong will write, produce and direct the film via his production company Offscreen, alongside Dooho Choi, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner.
Yeun joins a cast that has been confirmed to include Robert Pattinson, Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. The exact roles of cast members haven’t been announced.
Yeun rose to fame for his portrayal of Glenn Rhee on AMC’s The Walking Dead. In 2018, he played Ben in the South Korean thriller Burning. Yeun both starred in and executive produced 2020’s Minari, for which he received a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actor.
Later this month, Yeun can be seen in Jordan Peele’s new movie, Nope, hitting theaters on July 22.
