Mans' SS23 Tailoring Shines Like the Mediterranean's Golden Hour

The emerging Spanish label explores masculinity and traditions through cuts and colors for the “Raíces” collection.

Jaime Álvarez’s menswear label Mans might still be in its infancy, but as we’ve come to learn, emerging designers are often the ones to push the boundaries — and for Mans, this starts with switching up tailoring norms.

With just five years of seasonal collections under its belt, Mans has built an aesthetic based on traditions that are reimagined under a contemporary lens, touching upon the wide gender spectrum and contemplating the versatility of menswear, masculine connotations, and nostalgia. For Spring/Summer 2023, Mans presents “Raíces,” a collection that brings all of this together through the designer’s heritage all while looking to further shape the emerging Spanish brand.

Mans’ tailoring is injected with color and expression, adding flair and subtracting unwanted attention to create formal clothing that can be worn every day. Casa Mans plays a part in the collection’s source of inspiration; as Álvarez puts it, “The flowers and horses remind me of my home town, beautiful and open that announce the arrival of summer and joy.”

Under its prêt-à-porter and made-to-measure visions, Mans proffers formality for all. While blazers are exquisite with their almost wing-like notched lapels and strong shoulders, and pants hang effortlessly from the waist down, billowing to the foot with the Spanish summer ease that dominates Álvarez’s aesthetic, there’s also much more ready-to-wear on offer. Cropped numbers such as a knitted sweater is served in a yellow hue reminiscent of Mediterranean sunlight, bold two-piece ensembles struck by hits of blue and orange appear like abstract paintings, and a technical nylon zipped hooded shirt adds a welcomed touch of unstructured freedom.

But it’s the tailoring where Mans sings, as a tangerine-hued double-breasted suit complete with high-waisted flares, the ’80s businessman vibe that another muted blue piece gives, and the gingham-esque checkered ensembles steal SS23’s show.

Mans’ SS23 collection “Raíces” can be seen in the comprehensive lookbook above, while more information about the brand can be found on its Instagram and website.
