John Rattray's Why So Sad? x Nike SB Bruin Mid Is Unveiled
Dropping alongside an SB Dunk Low in effort to further the dialogue around mental health.
When it comes to evaluating the realm of sneakerhead culture today, one can certainly make the argument that it often revolves around materialism and reselling. However, the other side of that spectrum would say that footwear brands have taken advantage of their platform to shine a light on important topics through captivating products and storytelling, and that’s exactly what pro skater John Rattray is doing with his forthcoming Why So Sad? x Nike SB collection. The capsule is comprised of an SB Dunk Low and an SB Bruin Mid, the latter of which has just been unveiled by official imagery.
Why So Sad? was started by Rattay in 2016 in an effort to increase awareness and dialogue around mental health and suicide prevention, and this new sneaker launch is another physical extension of his mission. For this specific iteration, the Scottish skateboarder devises the base with soft brown suede and accents them with golden yellow laces and baby blue Nike checks. His signature “Predatory Bird” insignia shows up skating and biking on the lower heels as well as the right side’s insole, while question marks don the upper heel and “Why So Sad?” hits appear on the interior of the tongues.
No release date has been announced yet, but it’s likely that these will be dropping in the coming months via skate shops.
