Almost a decade after its original release, the first part of The Last of Us is finally getting a remake for both the PlayStation 5 and PC. The new remake was announced by Naughty Dog and Sony over at Summer Game Fest 2022, and the two released a fresh trailer showcasing some of the visual enhancements fans can expect from the game that now benefits from nine years of hardware development and a whole new generation of consoles.

Upgraded graphics aside, the game will retain the original performances from Ashley Johnson, Troy Baker and everyone else on the cast, but a new AI system breathes new life into the game’s combat elements. 3D audio and support for the DualSense controller’s adaptive triggers will also create a more immersive experience for fans, and gamers can expect to purchase the game for the PS5 on September 2.

The standard edition will be going for $70 USD while an $80 USD Digital Deluxe edition gives you access to more features such as explosive arrows, weapon skins, crafting modifiers, and even a speedrun mode. If those aren’t enough, there’ll also be a Firefly edition that’ll set you back $100 USD and include a steelbook cover as well as four issues of The Last of Us: American Dreams on top of everything in the middle tier.

Before Naughty Dog wrapped up its presentation, the studio also finally revealed more about a multiplayer title set within The Last of Us universe that they’ve been working on for quite some time. The game will have its very own storyline and a brand new host of characters, and many of the studio’s team members working on it are from the same team as the original The Last of Us franchise. Naughty Dog co-president Neil Druckmann calls the project “as big as any of our single-player games that we’ve done, and in some ways bigger.”

In other gaming news, Coffee Stain has announced a new Goat Simulator game.
