MSCHF's TAP3 Sneaker Subverts the All Black Nike Air Force 1

From the company that brought the world Jesus Shoes, Satan Shoes, and Birkinstocks, MSCHF now presents its latest subverted offering — TAP3, MSCHF’s own Nike Air Force 1-inspired sneaker.

Naturally, MSCHF has given the shoe plenty of tweaks and sophisticated undertones to make it stand out. For example, the pair is served up in black, which of course brings its own negative connotations and reputation, while over-molded TPU tape reading “MSCHF” has been applied to areas where you might typically see Nike motifs, such as the perforations on the toe box and the Swoosh.

This element of imitation is continued on the sole unit where you’ll find further branding in place of the usual “AIR” logo on the rear-quarter, while a yellow and red tongue tag in the style of tape and a complementing set of insoles rounds out this pair. Speaking on the release, the brand said: “The approximate shape of the AF1 has become the platonic ideal of a low-top sneaker. The first thing every brand that’s trying to pivot into sneakers does is make a pseudo-AF1 with a star-tipped lighting bolt, a flag, etc., where the swoosh would normally go. That cultural ubiquity makes it an attractive target for MSCHF to play with. And let’s be honest… it is a bit cathartic for us to launch this particular shoe almost exactly a year after the release of Satan Shoes.”

MSCHF’s TAP3 sneaker is priced at $220 USD and will launch on March 21 at 11 a.m. EST via a web raffle and on the brand’s dedicated sneaker app. Take a closer look at the pair above.
