STRONGTHE's FW22 Collection Notes Not All Ghosts Are Bad
Titled “Boo!”

“Not all ghosts are bad, some can give you a blessing too!,” for Fall/Winter 2022, STRONGTHE looked to showcase a distinct mysterious energy with its offerings. Titled “Boo!,” the seasonal range from MA Central Saint Martins graduate and designer, Strong Theveethivarak, builds on his Thai roots. According to the beliefs of Thailand’s early ghost culture, both good and bad spirits can help you with your luck, fortune, love and even improve your bank balance.
Fledgling London-based menswear name, STRONGTHE, has conceptualized an expression of men’s garments inspired by daily experiences and modern weaknesses. In contrast to its name, native traditional structures serve as a visual foundation to create a dialogue around physical impairment, while breaking boundaries through confined forms that support the silhouette of the wearer.
The FW22 collection taps into the spiritual with red-color detailing and holy rice grain motifs which have often been viewed in Thai culture to ward off dark energy. STRONGTHE also continues its latticework designs with the fastenings on trousers recall the woven rice baskets used for flight by Krahang, a nocturnal ghost believed to haunt rural villages. While seams found on tops mimic the dress depicted on baby ghost effigies and slip pockets sized to fit credit cards stand to protect and support one’s financial prosperity.
