Louis De Guzman Honors His Mother's Love for Flowers With His Latest New Balance 574 "Ma Divina"

There are currently a handful of brands in the sneaker space right now that are owning the collaborations category, and some can certainly make the argument that New Balance is sitting at the top of this list. The brand has been churning out impressive projects in recent memory, and it’s slated to close out the month of March with its third team-up with Louis De Guzman.

Together, the Filipino-American visual artist and the sportswear brand have reunited for another 574 collaboration entitled “Ma Divina.” This newest creation is devoted to De Guzman’s mother and her affinity for flowers as she would attend craft shows to arrange and sell floral bouquets in the early 90s. For this offering, the Chicago native reworks the 574 with an assortment of dusty pastels atop its suede overlays to convey the essence of Spring flower arrangements. White accents through the laces and midsoles white a soft gray hue fills in the mesh underlays to balance out the palette. Additionally, the insoles are decorated with snippets of De Guzman’s artwork which serves as an extension of his In Between The Lines series.

“As a child, my mother would attend local craft shows and put her creative flow to work to help make ends meet”, De Guzman says. “It was her way to openly express herself and share the inner thought process through her various love of DIY crafts and flower arrangements. Her love for detail and exposing me to that energy as a child helped broaden my perspective and amplified the artistry that I’m beyond humbled to be continuing to put forth each and every day.”

You can expect the kicks to be released globally through Foot Locker and Champs on March 24 $90 USD.
