Vault by Vans has a strong momentum going right now for its collaborative initiatives as it has recently partnered up with the likes of WTAPS, Museum of Peace & Quiet and BLENDS for special projects. And now the premium Vans sub-label is traveling cross country to Brooklyn, New York to join forces with artist and materials brand Krink for a three-piece initiative.

From a design perspective, Krink’s intention was to make use of staple Vault silhouettes in the Authentic VLT and Old Skool VLT but modify them in a way that highlights his graffiti and DIY sensibilities. “Graffiti and skate go way back. Skate spots always had graffiti, think Brooklyn Banks, and are gathering places not only for skaters, but graffiti writers too” Krink told HYPEBEAST. “There’s a vibe of kids creating their own environments, trying new things, practicing. Back in the day, it was always the graffiti writer who did early logos for skate brands, record labels, bands, rappers, etc.”

The Authentics are fashioned with a tonal silver theme which is emblematic of Krink’s flagship color. “It’s important to include as it speaks to the brand’s roots”, he says”. “I like 3M because it has an effect and it’s “booming” when you see it, and that’s how I think a good Krink tag should look, “booming.” The Old Skools are more or less crafted with their traditional black/white and navy/white color schemes but come altered with a striped sticker that wraps across the mid-foot and onto the treading. “The sticker going over the shoe and onto the outsole represents going over lines, coloring outside lines, not being confined to a box or permissible area. The stripe going over the Krink sticker speaks to the back and forth that often happens on the streets with graffiti. The Krink sticker over the shoe and the Vans stripe over Krink creates a playful interaction between the brands.”

Dropping alongside the shoes is a trio of apparel pieces including a shirt that features a custom tag made by Costello, a Photo shirt from Costello’s archives of a jacket and a black Drill Chore Coat that bears stash pockets.

Check out the “Krinky” collection in the gallery above and note that it will release via select Vault by Vans retailers on March 25.
