As the fashion world continues to mourn the loss of Virgil Abloh,
The collection continues to exemplify and carry on Abloh’s design philosophy. When explaining the purpose behind his pre-collection approach and clothing line, Abloh once said, “My philosophy is very much informed by the clothes that people actually wear. What I do is an analysis of a generation: what do people buy and why do they wear it? That question naturally creates an equal interest in tradition as it does in changing tradition. But it’s also about challenging myself and exploring different land. That is creative freedom.”
Louis Vuitton Pre-Fall 2022 is set in Lyon, where it acts as a photographic dialogue that informs the sportswear and workwear inspirations behind this pre-collection. Tailored trousers take codes from voluminous shapes and are worn with blousons in place of blazers for a more relaxed aesthetic. Designs stay true to the house as a tonal black wool varsity jacket featuring embossed LV monogram leather sleeves are apparent. Other pieces made perfect for layering include a white leather and shearling bomber jacket, a bottle green biker jacket with leather paneling and a padded jacket in turquoise featuring the house’s quintessential flower pattern.
Relaxed tailoring sets the tone for the rest of the collection, echoing Abloh’s use of oversized cuts and light materials. The collection also includes a striped blue suit featuring Abloh’s signature pin-hook closure. The stripes are reminiscent of Louis Vuitton’s stripes that historically lined Maison’s trunks. Abloh revamps the idea of a three-piece suit, moving the formalwear to contemporary times. While it still maintains a formal silhouette, the combination is fitted with jackets, trousers and wrap skirts.
