Justin Bieber Debuts Balenciaga's New Defender Sneaker
Starring in another campaign wearing Demna’s latest collection.
Demna loves celebrity culture. His recent campaigns, shot by Stef Mitchell, have seen Kim Kardashian, Isabelle Huppert, Tommy Blue and Marie-Agnès Diene all star in the latest and greatest Balenciaga garms, and now fan-favorite Justin Bieber is back for yet another round of campaign images.
Bieber made his Balenciaga debut back in July 2021, starring in a campaign that centered on the house’s new Runner sneaker. Since, the pop star has shown his love for the brand in the campaign for the Trooper Boots, and again more recently showcasing new offerings from the label as well as the familiar Triple S.
Now, the superstar musician appears in another campaign shoot, this time around putting the spotlight on Balenciaga’s soon-coming Defender sneaker. Originally debuted during the Spring/Summer 2022 runway show — comprising of a red carpet takeover an episode of The Simpsons — the Defender continues Balenciaga’s dominance in the luxury footwear market and echoes previous daring silhouettes.
The style is modeled after a tire, sporting a rounded aesthetic with an incredibly bulbous sole unit that encompasses most of the shoe’s design, incorporating itself into the upper. Here, synthetic panels and mesh combine for a retro runner look, and the shoe also features a pre-worn look to add to its vintage vibe. Lastly, the sole unit is not just for show, as it rolls with the foot when worn for a uniquely orthopedic feeling.
Bieber is seen wearing the shoes in dirtied white (there’s also a black pair coming), and pairs this with the political logo small fit T-Shirt, Destroyed Skater jeans, a Skater belt, exposed briefs, and a pair of Bat sunglasses.
Take a look at the campaign above, and expect the Balenciaga Defender sneakers to release worldwide in-stores and online on March 1.
