Tekla Launches Terry Towelling Collection Inspired by Finnish Sauna Culture
Introducing bathmats for the first time.
Danish label Tekla has returned with a new collection, crafting an expanded range of towels, bathrobes and bathmats from terry towelling. The collection’s influence is taken from Finland’s sauna culture, with an accompanying campaign by Philip Messmann and Frederik Säll, and an essay from Josefine Skomars.
In the essay, Skomars writes of the “two million saunas and only five million people,” in Finland, adding:
“Here, a visit to the sauna is a ritual of care. There are physical benefits of the extreme temperature shifts and the rush of endorphins flushing the body – but perhaps most important is the moment to oneself that the sauna offers. Here, we are out of reach from the modern world. The intensity of the sensations brings us home to our bodies and urges us to be present. Embraced by warmth, the body releases the tensions that have accumulated unnoticed, and worries drop away along with the sweat running down the skin.”
This influence is seen across the collection, which sees four new colorways alongside Tekla’s core colorways. Stand-outs include bathrobes in “Ivory” and “Red and Rose” stripes, as well as bathmats and towel sets in “Siena.”
The bathrobes and towels set to launch via the Tekla web store now on February 12 and bathmats on February 18.
