Jordan Brand Is Closing Out 2022 With the Return of the Air Jordan 2 "Chicago"
The ‘86 classic returns with its original form and Bulls-friendly colors.

Before 2022 officially comes to a close, Jordan Brand is carving out space for one last bring-back: the Air Jordan 2 “Chicago.” We’ve seen this pair’s official images pop up along with a myriad of early leaks, so let’s dive a little into its backstory.
The Air Jordan 2 was executed by iconic Nike designers Bruce Kilgore and Peter Moore in 1986, both of which took a risk with its build by making it more sophisticated than the Air Jordan 1. However, there were a few factors that contributed to consumers not resonating with the silhouette. For one, Michael Jordan suffered a gruesome foot injury during the season that these debuted, and as a result, they didn’t get as much time to flex on the court as other models in his catalog. Secondly, they hit the $100 USD threshold due to their Italian-made construction, and this was considered a premium in the late ’80s which was a turn-off for sneaker customers at the time.
But despite all of the negative connotations around the shoes, the Air Jordan 2 was pivotal for Jordan and his signature line because it helped Nike establish the six-time champion’s own standalone line without the need to utilize the Swoosh logo. Additionally, MJ happened to rack up 37 points in his first game rocking the kicks. And now the model’s classic “Chicago” makeup is poised to get its reissue. Its Chicago Bulls-appropriate palette returns to the fore along with its original shape that loyal Jordan heads can appreciate.
