Nostalgia's the Goal for Umbro's "The Nations" Collection
Featuring reworked versions of former England, Brazil, France, and Poland jerseys.
With the FIFA World Cup just around the corner, all fans of the sport will be scouting out the perfect jersey to wear in support of their nation. And while the new-era kits — such as England’s recent Nike Football release – come with Dri-FIT ADV technology and modern designs centered around performance, sometimes it’s important to bring an element of style that expresses patriarchy and nostalgia.
Cast your minds back to some of the most iconic national football kits; England’s 1996 home jersey that’s synonymous with Paul Gascoigne, or the 1998-released France kit that Zinedine Zidane wore to lead his nation to World Cup jersey — jerseys like this old their place in history as strips that engrain themselves as everyday wardrobe rotations, away from the football pitch. With this being said, Umbro has just presented its new collection of limited-edition football jerseys that remix ten of its most nostalgic international kit designs from past eras.
Entitled “The Nations” collection, Umbro has reworked jerseys such as England’s 1990, and Brazil’s 1994 kits, along with a slew of other nations such as Mexico, France, the USA, Poland, and Germany. Each kit features a bespoke country crest that’s inspired by each nation’s sporting and design heritage while every jersey is also designed with revitalized colors and patterns, blending elements from past footballing eras with the modern game. Collection highlights include the Poland jersey that’s designed with a dropped-shoulder and oversized silhouette. Coated with a sky blue color tone, sprinkles of red are added throughout the shirt’s base in tiny triangle formations. Rounding off the design, the kit comes with a crisp white collar with matching details around the sleeve cuffs.
