The HIDDEN x Umbro Football Jersey Gets Remixed by Sashiko Gals
Transferring the Japanese mending tradition to the collaborators’ FW25 sportswear collection for a one-of-one gift to HIDDEN.
Summary
- The Japan-based Sashiko Gals created a one-of-one custom version of the pixelated HIDDEN x Umbro FW25 football jersey.
- This exclusive gift features traditional hand-stitched patterns and technicolor embroidery, blending 17th-century Japanese mending techniques with modern streetwear, though no public release is planned.
The HIDDEN x Umbro football jersey was already a statement in itself, boasting its hyper pixelated waterfalls and multilingual graphics. Now, Sashiko Gals, a group of women based in Northern Japan who specialize in traditional sashiko, unveiled their own twist on the FW25 collaboration.
Originally released in September 2025, HIDDEN and Umbro partnered on an 18-piece capsule collection of classic sportswear, including the featured jersey and cap. The Digi Falls jersey is printed with an all-over pixelated pattern and emblazoned with a HIDDEN wordmark at the front. At the chest, Umbro’s signature emblem and a football crest give the piece a real field jersey feel.
As a one-of-one gift to HIDDEN NY in late 2025, the Sashiko Gals added their signature updates to the design with multi-directional patterns and technicolor designs, from swirling stitches on the body to a grid pattern on the backside. Elsewhere, on the collar and hand-stitched tabs add a lived-in character to the garment.
Lately, the Sashiko Gals, founded in 2023, have become well-known for their custom sneakers, including official collaborations with New Balance. Though the sewing technique is seeing a resurgence today, especially in streetwear, it began as a functional mending technique during the 17th-century Edo Period. Over the centuries, it grew into an artful tradition, preserved by multi-generational practitioners.
The custom jersey and cap were an exclusive gift for HIDDEN NY and aren’t expected to receive a wider release as of the time of writing.
