Chitose Abe‘s Japanese label sacai is no stranger to collaborations, having consistently worked with
Known for critiquing mass and popular culture, MADSAKI adorns a selection of sacai’s garments with a statement that reads “Sheeple Zombies and Kool-Aid,” appearing printed or embroidered into sweaters on the front or the rear of jackets. Elsewhere in the collaborative world, sacai debuted its take on the Nike Cortez, coming in the Bill Bowerman-designed OG colorway of white with red and blue touches, and a minimalistic gray offering too. In sacai’s usual ways, the Cortez sports an exaggerated heel that’s widened and elongated, Zoom Air bubbles at the forefoot, and a second layer inside. Other footwear styles for FW22 include sacai’s technical take on an après-ski Moon Boot meets Kanye West’s YEEZY NSLTD boot, with a touch of Rick Owens given the boot’s lacing, chunkiness, and zippers.
Aside from the footwear and collaborations, sacai also presented a rather stellar FW22 collection of men’s and women’s clothes. Outerwear was king, serving lilac puffer jackets fitted with cords worn over fleece-covered, military green nylon liner jackets, tailored overcoats, oversized chore jackets with contrasting cut-outs, and gilets paired with wintery Fairisle knits. The theme is continued with sacai’s standout cape, combining a traditional poncho print with nylon components, and other jumpers that are knitted in such a way to offer volume in the form of fringes and tassels.
