Take a Full Look at the sacai Men's SS22/Women's Pre-Spring 2022 Collection
Featuring an in-depth collaboration with Errolson Hugh’s ACRONYM.
Following a brief teaser earlier this week, sacai has now fully revealed its Men’s Spring/Summer 2022 and Women’s Pre-Spring 2022 collection. The dual unveil expresses the theme of bonding which the label explains as a “metaphor for unity and as a technique for joining together two materials – two ideas that have been at the heart of sacai since the beginning.” For the season, designer Chitose Abe created a study on “sealing together two apparently disparate notions to make a new form,” in a resulting mix that blends characteristics “born of different, sometimes opposing, origins.”
For its Men’s SS22 and Women’s Pre-Spring 2022 collection sacai re-contextualized some of its signature fabrications, applying paisley bandana print, buffalo checks and rug jacquards applied to waterproof technical nylon. Suiting was updated with outdoor technical details like external workwear pockets and bonded seams, while Long Chesterfield coats became waterproof coat dresses in a mix of satin and ripstop nylon.
The classic tweed cardigan jacket has also been updated with integrated waterproof paneling and buffalo check has been explored with three fabrics joined and graduating to a chiffon base. Finally, piercings lend a striking edge to the delicacy of chiffon plaids and bandana prints have become an appliqué on chiffon.
Standing as a major is a collaboration with Errolson Hugh‘s ACRONYM label centered around technical details with sacai fabrics and shapes for men and women. Most notably a dress silhouette, a first for ACRONYM. “Having known Chitose, and of course sacai, for many years, this collaboration is the ideal kind of cross-pollination. And as I believe you can see from the results, it’s a true blend of the philosophies of both brands, where the sum is greater than the parts,” says Hugh.
Finally, continuing the season’s “spirit of togetherness,” sacai has prepared a wicker picnic basket complete with picnic ware by celebrated Parisian ceramics workshop, Astier de Villatte.
