After rumors of a collaboration between sacai founder Chitose Abe and ACRONYM‘s Errolson Hugh first surfaced last week, Hugh confirmed the collection in a set of Instagram posts on Monday.

“sacai ACRONYM collection launching January 2022,” Hugh wrote alongside images of the forthcoming collection and more details about the men’s and women’s offerings.

“Riffing on a theme of bonding, both as a metaphor for unity and as a technique for joining together two materials — two ideas that have been at the heart of sacai since the beginning,” the Munich-based designer wrote. “The collection by founder and designer, Chitose Abe, is a study on sealing together two apparently disparate notions to make a new form, bringing together characteristics born of different, sometimes opposing, origins.”

The spirit of bonding comes through in the collection visually, with ACRONYM’s innovative technical details melded into Tokyo-based sacai’s signature fabrics and shapes. The collaboration marks the first time ACRONYM has released a dress silhouette, showcasing the brand’s monochromatic color scheme and complimenting sacai’s androgynous aesthetic. Pops of natural colors and woven textures also dot the women’s offerings.

“Having known Chitose, and of course sacai, for many years, this collaboration is the ideal kind of cross-pollination. And as I believe you can see from the results, it’s a true blend of the philosophies of both brands, where the sum is greater than the parts.”
