Watch the First Trailer for Guillermo del Toro's Stop-Motion Musical 'Pinocchio'

Netflix has released the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s stop-motion musical take on Pinocchio, which is slated to debut on the streamer in December 2022.

“I want to tell you a story,” the teaser opens. “It’s a story you may think you know, but you don’t. Not really.”

The visual introduces Ewan McGregor in the role of Sebastian J. Cricket, who narrates the story after living “in the heart” of Pinocchio, played by newcomer Gregory Mann. The remaining cast of voice actors includes David Bradley, Tilda Swinton, Christoph Waltz, Finn Wolfhard, Cate Blanchett, John Turturro, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson and Burn Gorman.

Per Netflix’s official description, del Toro “reinvents Carlo Collodi’s classic tale of the wooden marionette who is magically brought to life in order to mend the heart of a grieving woodcarver.” Set during Benito Mussolini’s fascist ruling over 1930s Italy, the film follows Pinocchio’s cruel and mischievous escapades as he attempts to discover his place in the world.

The film is directed by Oscar-winner del Toro and Mark Gustafson, based on a script written by del Toro and Patrick McHale. The movie’s producers include del Toro, Lisa Henson (Jim Henson Company), Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico (Shadow Machine) and Gary Ungar.
