London label Aries has returned with the lookbook for it Spring/Summer 2022 collection, mixing various influences, graphics and references to both high and low culture. Running throughout the collection are a number of signature Aries motifs — including its temple logo and “No Problemo” slogan — as well as new categories ranging from climbing-inspired trousers to Oxford shirts.

Another theme for the collection is nostalgia. Speaking to HYPEBEAST about the collection, founder and creative director Sofia Prantera said, “I think looking back for inspiration is natural, but I would never want to be too literal and I am not interested in straight copies of vintage items; it’s about learning from the past and developing the new, so these references are scattered throughout the collection in a very subtle way.”

The new collection also incorporates a celebration of imperfection, which can be seen through the collection’s dyeing process. “Aries is known for its dyeing and washing processes and we were interested in utilizing our techniques to make the clothes look “sun-kissed,” bleached and asged as if left in the sun to create a dead-stock feel to the collection,” Prantera continues. “I like a challenge. The manufacturing process has become a lot easier and by trying to achieve uniqueness and imperfection you challenge this process and get something new.”

Aries’ tongue-in-cheek graphics are also revisited for the SS22 collection, with everything from a “No Yoga” slogan to rude graffiti appearing. The graphic references are diverse, with Prantera pointing to “Obscure Vintage, Squeak the Mouse, Frigidaire, Pollock, Rothko, Hydro-dripping, slogan graffiti, Chamberlain,” for the influences on this season’s pieces.
