Yohji Yamamoto and adidas Originals‘ avant-garde sub-label Y-3 is back for the second chapter of its Fall/Winter 2021 collection, following on from a drop that reflects on one’s journey from the city and into nature with a collection that’s captured and centered around a mountainous snowscape.
In the second FW21 chapter, Y-3 explores insulation and innovation under the lens of a “cocoon,” elevating the collection to a surrealist realm that aims to transport the wearer to a fantasy world. Aptly, the lookbook is backed by a 3D VFX visual that depicts a mountainous snowscape of epic proportions, spotlighting animated avatars that were made using the biometric data of real models, subsequently meaning that the clothes, shoes, and accessories you see in the lookbook are also digital adaptions.
Real or fake, it’s clear to tell that Y-3’s second FW21 installment shows what it does best — technical outwear and shoes. For example, sleek knitwear in velour-like fabrics fit close to the body, while more daring knits — such as the technical-weave color-blocked piece in various shades of gray and cream — are baggy and undoubtedly warm. Paired with a similarly woven white scarf (or perhaps the down-padded coats and the range of sleek trousers), and the signature Y-3 uniform is strong this season.
Rounding out the collection is a new range of footwear, spanning from Y-3 essentials such as its take on the UltraBOOST 21 and the Runner 4D IO to pairs including the Hicho, GR.1P, Idoso BOOST, Kaiwa, Orisan, Shiku Run, and more.
