Mercedes-AMG Gives GT 4-Door Coupe a 831 Horsepower Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain
Marking the brand’s first performance hybrid ever.
After introducing its standard GT 4-Door coupe back in June, Mercedes-AMG has now unveiled the long-expected plug-in hybrid version, marking the first performance plug-in hybrid from the German automaker.
Now pairing its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with an electric motor, the coupe is able to push out 831 horsepower and 1,033 pound-feet of torque, almost double of the standard petrol version’s 429 horsepower and triple of its 384 pound-feet of torque. With power like this, the car can make 0-60mph in just 2.9 seconds and reach top speeds of 196mph. Since performance was placed at the forefront of its engineering and design, the hybrid powertrain will only provide an electric range of seven miles, but its power to the rear axles can also be pushed forward with Mercedes’ advanced all-wheel drive system.
There’s currently no pricing information or release date yet for the new plug-in hybrid version of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door coupe, though it’s expected to launch sometime next year.
