For $65, It’s Hard to Go Wrong With the Nike GTS

A no-frills canvas sneaker from the ’90s that’s cheap, versatile and classic is returning.

Face it: Nike sneakers aren’t cheap. No matter if you’re coughing up $190 USD for a pair of Air Jordans, shelling out $170 USD for an Air Max 95 or even reaching into your pocket for LeBron James‘ latest Nike Basketball shoe, there’s a king’s ransom (pun intended) to be paid for a lot of Swoosh styles. Even classics like the Dunk and Air Force 1 hover around the $90-$100 USD range. Of course, there’s budget sneakers to be had as well — the $65 USD Tanjun has been Nike’s best-selling sneaker many a quarter — but they lack the prestige of their high-priced counterparts.

Thankfully, the Nike GTS provides a perfect middle ground. Priced the same as the Tanjun, the GTS is an all-canvas sneaker from the ’90s that in years past has been revamped by Nike SB to create the SB GTS and even collaborated on by Supreme, enhancing its cool factor. Now, it’s back in its original black and white colorway.

A popular choice of skaters in the ’90s due to its low price point and durable style, the GTS offers a black canvas upper, embellished by white-outlined Swooshes and metallic silver eyelets. Two extra eyelets under the wearer’s arch on the medial side enhance breathability and a white Nike Sportswear graphic is embroidered on the tongue. A final Swoosh appears on the leather heel tab, while down below white midsoles with a black foxing stripe round off the look.

The Nike GTS in black and white will return to Nike SNKRS on August 26. It’s priced at an entirely palatable $65 USD.
