Joe Freshgoods x New Balance 990v3 "Outside Clothes" Receives a Global Launch Date

After giving his hometown of Chicago some love with an early release of his New Balance 990v3 “Outside Clothes” collaboration, Joe Freshgoods is in preparation to launch this project on a global scale. Alongside the shoes will be a range of matching apparel products, all of which draw from the great outdoors — a major source of inspiration that the designer realized has been drastically altered since the COVID-19 pandemic took its course.

“I didn’t realize until last year how much the act of being outside had played a major part in my career,” said Joe “Freshgoods” Robinson when reflecting on the collection. “Sometimes it takes something being taken away from you to realize what it means to you. And that’s really what inspired this shoe. To me, being told you smell like outside represents the early stages of what fun meant. From neighborhood block parties to hanging on the porch all day with your homies, you knew you had a wild day when your mom said you smelled like outside.”

Earth-inspired tones are what outfit the lifestyle kicks, the more prominent ones being a murky brown which can be interpreted as the dirt beneath out feet and a bold blue which represents the sky. Subtle splashes of green also take shape on the first eye lets and various branded areas, all of which are emblematic of lush grass.

Dropping alongside the sneakers are various clothing pieces such as a tee that reads “We Miss When Outside Was Outside”, co-branded pull-over hoodies, sweat shorts that are furnished with floral embroidery and the word “Outside”, sweatpants, and a button-up shirt that bears more floral art on the back.

The full collection is dropping via New Balance and select global retailers come September 10. The shoes will retail for $220 USD.
