However, the ZX 8000 isn’t actually made from denim.

adidas Originals follows on from its just-announced EQT 30th anniversary multi-collab teaser with yet another collaboration, this time enlisting the Japanese stalwart atmos to rework its ZX 8000 and Superstar under a “Denim Pack.”

Confusingly, the ZX 8000 is not actually made from denim, but is more inspired by the tones of denim itself. As a result, we find the sneaker constructed from a base of light blue mesh that can be seen on the toe box, mid-panel, and parts of the heel, while navy blue suede overlays this around the toe bumper and onto the mid-panel, connecting to the Three Stripes, eyestay placket, and appearing once more on the heel, while more dark blue touches hit the tongue tab and ZX heel cage. In contrast, we find bright blue leather and plastic detailing the ZX 8000, notably appearing on the majority of the heel. Lastly, and thankfully, navy blue denim patches can be found (if you look closely) just underneath the ZX-branded lace lock and on both sides of the mid-panel situated underneath the Three Stripes.

If you’re buying into a “Denim Pack” because you fancy your pair of Superstars to be decked in denim, then you’re in luck, as this is exactly what atmos has pulled off. Aside from the signature white shell toe and smooth leather that’s been used to highlight the Three Stripes, tongue, and heel tab, you’ll find a full upper made from black denim that’s printed with a subtle adidas Trefoil repeat logo all over. However, on the medial side, atmos switches this up by adding a grayscale-themed checkerboard print into the denim, once again nodding to traditional denim finishes.

The atmos x adidas Originals ZX 8000 and Superstar “Denim Pack” is only available via atmos Tokyo’s raffle or via adidas’ regional websites. Both will go on sale on August 28, with the Superstar costing ¥13,200 JPY and the ZX 8000 retailing for ¥15,400 JPY (approx. $120 USD — $140 USD).
