Detailed Look at the Nike Dunk Low "SiEMPRE Familia"
On and off-foot shots of the scaly style.
Apart from releasing the Dunk in classic collegiate colorways, Nike is using the onetime hoop shoe as a canvas for rich storytelling, thanks to models like the recently-revealed Dunk Low “SiEMPRE Familia.” Seemingly commemorating Dia de Los Muertos or “the day of the dead,” — long a favorite subject of Nike Sportswear‘s seasonal releases — the Dunk Low “SiEMPRE Familia” is a detailed homage to an important piece of Mexican culture.
Where past “Day of the Dead” sneakers have featured everything from floral prints to sugar skulls, the “SiEMPRE Familia” is inspired by lizard motifs commonly hand-painted for the holiday. Its build takes this inspiration to heart quite literally, using scaly leather on the green toebox, quarter and collar plus the black/gray patterned mudguards, eyestays and heels.
A dash of vibrance is served by the Swooshes and heel tabs, both of which feature multicolor prints above a rich blue base. Meanwhile, a full-color lizard graphic is embroidered on the heel. Sport blue trim is used on the collar and white nylon tongue, a dash of red appears on the rubberized tongue badge and insoles display both “SiEMPRE Familia” and skull detailing.
An official release date for the Nike Dunk Low “SiEMPRE Familia” has yet to be announced, but as the Day of the Dead celebration occurs yearly on September 1 and 2 it’ll likely hit retailers around then.
