New Balance has returned to its 990v2 silhouette for the second installment in its new “MADE 990 Version Series”. The archive-inspired release follows on from the 990v1 that arrived last month, kicking off the 990 series’ 40th anniversary celebrations.
The 990v2 arrives in New Balance’s classic grey colorway, paying tribute to the shoe’s history. The silhouette has also been recreated from its original release, with its suede and mesh construction showing how far the 990 line had come from its launch with the v1.
Offsetting the original features is a series of ruby red details, exclusive to the “MADE 990 Version Series” and referencing the silhouette’s “Ruby” anniversary. As well as a red tag on the shoe’s sidewall, it also features red detailing on the tongue, declaring the version and establish date. Other features include a sole, insert and duster bag sporting an image of the clock tower at New Balance’s factory in Lawrence, Massachusetts, celebrating the history of the label through its most famous silhouettes.
Keep an eye out for official release details of the New Balance 990v2 in the coming days. To prepare you for the launch, we recently traced the history of the 990 line from its earliest days to the upcoming v6.
