Father’s Day took place almost a month ago today, so why did New Balance (and some stockists) decide to name this 57/40 after the occasion? Well, as we all know, New Balance’s are the OG and best dad shoe, after all.
So, to give off the dad vibe, New Balance has created a 57/40 that’s finished with imperfections all over, as if these are a dad’s go-to pair of sneakers that have really gone through it all. A distressed and dirtied sole unit is the first notable touch, and if you look closely even the uppers are tarnished around the edges. However, the red and yellow speckles that decorate the laces and the 3M-surrounded navy-hued “N” emblem are said to be “splattered” with the remains of a hot dog’s sauce.
As for the shoe itself, you’ll find a double-stacked sole unit that gives off a more contemporary, curvaceous take on the old-school dad shoe vibe, and these curves are then continued throughout the shoe’s design. Navy details round out the pair, hitting up the tongue tab, heel clip, and lining, where further “NB” branding can be found.
The New Balance 57/40 “Father’s Day” retails for $149 USD and can be bought from HBX now.
