When it comes to altercations in the NBA, there’s none that come close to the “Malice at the Palace”. On November 19, 2004, the Indiana Pacers and Detroit Pistons matched up in a regular season game, and with under a minute left to go participated in the most notorious brawl that ever took place on the NBA stage.

A hard foul by Ron Artest on a driving-to-the-rim Ben Wallace sparked the series of unfortunate events. From there, tussles broke out between various players on both squads including Rasheed Wallace and Stephen Jackson, but things started to get extremely ugly the moment that Artest made his way into the seating sections and proceeded to beat down a fan who had thrown a beer cup on him. Multiple brawls between players and fans then started to take place, the arena was serenaded with a symphony of boo-ing and food and drinks were being thrown on players and coaches as they were exiting the floor.

UNTOLD Vol. 1 is a five-part docuseries that focuses on some of the biggest moments in sports history is coming to Netflix, and one of its components is a deep-dive into this infamous NBA melee. An 80-minute segment is dedicated to the “Malice At The Palace” and it will feature never-before-seen interviews and footage from the players who were involved.

“Some people have control over their emotions. I don’t. I was trying to find any way to escape,” former Pacers guard Ron Artest states in the trailer. “I want the story out there, like what happened, go frame by frame.”

The new docuseries will premier on Netflix come August 10, 2021.
