NEEDLES SS22 Collection Gives Us The Butterflies
A pattern-heavy collection drawing from the ’70s.
Tokyo-based apparel brand NEEDLES lead by Japanese designer Keizo Shimizu is known for blending old Americana and Western styles with Japanese textiles. The brand skyrocketed in popularity following its line of signature butterfly logo tracksuits in collaboration with A$AP Rocky‘s AWGE label in 2018 and 2019. NEEDLES’ Spring/Summer 2022 collection draws inspiration from ’70s vintage apparel with a wide array of retro looks ranging from casual, hippie, to downright proper.
Shimizu isn’t shy with patterns by way of expression, incorporating a myriad of eye-catching striped, plaid, floral, psychedelic, and Thai-inspired prints decorating a range of suit sets, fisherman pants, shirts, and scarves. While highly stylized items in the collection are powerful standalone pieces, they are also alluringly complimentary and come together when layered.
The celebrated butterfly motif makes its way from the signature tracksuits to linen blazers, caps, work shirts, and denim pieces in the form of embroidery and patchwork. Scattered within the heavily adorned apparel are also easy-to-wear monotone and dichromatic items.
The NEEDLES SS22 collection will be available at NEPENTHES’ website and stockists such as HBX next year.
