Lorde Officially Makes Her Return With Summery New Single "Solar Power"
Marking her first solo release in four years.
Lorde is officially making her return with the release of “Solar Power,” her first solo material in four years.
Co-produced by Jack Antonoff and the artist herself, the new single is built on warm acoustic guitars, thick percussion and background vocals from Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers. “Solar Power” hears Lorde talk about the power of basking in the sun and letting go of all her worries, singing, “Forget all of thе tears that you’ve cried / It’s ovеr / It’s a new state of mind / Are you coming, my baby?” The chorus can also be seen as a direct departure from the sorrowful themes of her 2017 album Melodrama, which loosely narrated the events and feeling of one house party.
In her newsletter, Lorde shared that the release is the title track of her upcoming album. “The album is a celebration of the natural world, an attempt at immortalising the deep, transcendent feelings I have when I’m outdoors,” she wrote. “In times of heartache, grief, deep love, or confusion, I look to the natural world for answers. I’ve learnt to breathe out, and tune in. This is what came through.”
