Anthony Vaccarello is taking a different approach for Saint Laurent Rive Droite‘s latest collection, as for this release the luxury house has teamed up with the Italian design and architecture group Memphis for a capsule collection and exhibition.
Memphis — which celebrates its 40th anniversary this year — was founded in 1981 by Ettore Sottsass and has since become one of the most dominant names in the world of art and design. It represents a cultural movement and is known for reinterpreting shapes, scales, materials and colors to create daring and unforgettable pieces of interior design and architecture, and now this notion inspires a collaboration between both Saint Laurent Rive Droite and Memphis.
An exhibition hosted at both Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and Los Angeles will showcase Memphis’ greatest hits such as the Masanori Umeda-designed RING bed, Ettore Sottsass’ CARLTON room divider, and the RIVIERA chairs designed by Michele De Lucchi. This will all be joined by a collection of homeware pieces, ceramic objects and textile accessories, notably an array of ashtrays, vases, plates, glasses, decorations and accessories including pouches and scarves, and archival books that detail Memphis’ history (all of which are for sale in-store and online).
Rounding out the collaborative project is a capsule collection designed by Vaccarello that takes the unimitable characteristics of Memphis’ works and applies this to two multicolored checkerboard hoodies, two dresses, one shirt and two pairs of sneakers.
Take a look at the project above or in the Saint Laurent Rive Droite stores in Paris and L.A. from May 19 to June 23, and find the whole collection of clothes, accessories and homeware goods online.
