Amazon Could be Acquiring MGM for $9 Billion USD
Giving its Prime members access to movie franchises like ‘Rocky’ and ‘James Bond.’
Variety has just been told by industry sources that Amazon is looking to buy Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The studio has been putting out feelers as early as last year, and if this deal does go through, it will see Amazon acquire MGG for an estimated $9 billion USD.
It’s no secret that Amazon is looking to expand one of its fastest-growing sectors, having already increased its spend on TV shows, movies, and music by 40 percent from 2019 to 2020. With already 200 million Prime members, the purchase of MGM will give those members access to TV/film franchises like Rocky, James Bond, The Hobbit, American Gladiators, Stargate, Survivor, The Voice, and The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, to name a few.
