Maison Margiela Turns the Reebok Club C Into an Optical Illusion

Reinterpreting the silhouette with the trompe l’oeil technique.

After last month’s fusion of the Classic Leather and Tabi, Reebok and Maison Margiela have come together for more collaborative footwear. The latest capsule is based around the Club C silhouette, which has been finished using a signature Maison Margiela design detail.

The much-loved Reebok silhouette is finished using the trompe l’oeil technique, which sees the upper — constructed from a single piece of flat leather — finished with a print of a scanned image of the original Club C shoe. This technique means that the upper appears to feature every detail, stitch and curve, despite being constructed from just one piece of leather. The sneaker is then finished with a co-branded tongue, featuring Reebok’s vector logo alongside Maison Margiela’s signature branding.

Take a look at the Maison Margiela x Reebok Club C in the gallery above. The sneaker is due to release in either black or white on March 24, and will be available from select Maison Margiela stores, the label’s web store and the Reebok site.
