JAY-Z's Rare D'USSÉ Cognac Sells at Auction for $52,500 USD
Only 285 bottles of the Cognac were made.

Roc Nation honcho JAY-Z has auctioned off a rare bottle of his D’USSÉ Cognac at Sotheby’s. The luxurious bottle of D’USSÉ Grande Champagne Cognac Anniversaire Limited Edition 1969 sold for a whopping $52,500 USD.
Sotheby’s revealed that the bottle was expected to go between $24,000 to $75,000 USD and was ultimately sold to an unnamed bidder. Not only is the Cognac only one of 285 bottles ever made in celebration of Hov’s 50th birthday in 2019, but it is named “Bottle No. 1” due to the fact that it is the only bottle with an engraved signature from the rap mogul. All 285 bottles are numbered with an inscription on the topper to showcase their place in the batch. Each bottle also features a 12-cut crystal diamond decanter design encased in a luxurious leather box adorned with opulent accents The remaining bottles are expected to have been gifted to JAY’s close family and friends.
The bottle is the first of the Cognac to be on sale publically. The funds from the sale are expected to go to the Shawn Carter Foundation to support professional advancement and entrepreneurship workshops for students. In a statement, JAY-Z said, “When our Cellar Master, Michel Casavecchia, discovered the aged liquid at the Chateau de Cognac and explained how truly one of a kind it is, it was important to me to honor it by doing something that would celebrate its singularity. Once that barrel is emptied, there’s no way the liquid can be recreated. The whole process behind the 1969 Anniversaire collection reminded me why I got involved in the spirits industry in the first place – to create something that will stand the test of time. It means a lot that we’re finally able to share the D’USSE 1969 Anniversaire Limited Edition with the rest of the world, and we’re proud to auction the first bottle in the collection with Sotheby’s to benefit the Shawn Carter Foundation.”
