Hublot’s second collaboration with Shepard Fairey aka OBEY is certainly ambitious, not only does it seek to depict the interconnected nature of all things, but it also aims to do some good on the corporeal plane.
The 45mm titanium Classic Fusion Chronograph is engraved with a design based on a mandala, complex artworks found in several eastern religions cultures symbolizing the universe, which is carried over onto the dial in the form of open-working, revealing the Hublot’s 4Hz Calibre HUB1155 chronograph movement beneath while Fairey’s ‘Star Gear’ signature sits above the apex of the hands.
Fairey, founder of OBEY Clothing, is perhaps best known for the Obama Hope poster which came to symbolise Barak Obama’s historic first election campaign. The watch is Hublot’s third art piece so far this year, having already collaborated with Takashi Murakami and Richard Orlinski.
The Hublot Classic Fusion Chronograph Shepard Fairey is finished with a lined black rubber strap and secured with a brushed steel clasp and a percentage of the funds raised from sales will go to Amnesty International, an NGO which campaigns to put an end to human rights violations.
The watch is limited to 50 individually numbered pieces and available now via Hublot, priced $22,000 USD.
In other watch news, TAG Heuer has created a titanium version of its flying tourbillon chronograph.
