Yohji Yamamoto Adds Ghillie Lacing to Dr. Martens' 1461
Simultaneously adding jagged ridges to the upper and sole.
One of Dr. Martens‘ biggest fans is none other than Japanese legend Yohji Yamamoto, whose avant-garde tastes have updated a host of the British footwear brands’ signature silhouettes. Rejoining for Spring/Summer 2021, the duo have issued another remixed silhouette in smooth Temperley leather, this time focusing on a low-cut shape.
Tackling the classic 1461 model, Yamamoto has spiced up the timeless derby with a bevy of thoughtful touches, retaining the instantly-recognizable yellow sole stitching and not much else. The all-black (naturally) shoe sports a ridged sole that complements the jagged panels that cross the entire upper, from midfoot to heel. Finally, not only have the ghillie laces taken over the vamp, but the tongue now sports Dr. Martens’ signature “Bouncing Soles” tab, which usually appears on the heel.
The YY Ghillie Black Temperley shoe launches February 3 for ¥64,000 JPY (approximately $610 USD) via Yohji Yamamoto’s web store, Japanese outposts and the Dr. Martens stores in Aoyama and Harajuku.
Yamamoto most recently rejoined New Era for another collaborative affair.
