Will Ferrell Is Pissed That Norway Is Buying More EVs than the U.S.
GM’s big game commercial also features Kenan Thompson and Awkwafina.
As Super Bowl LV approaches, the commercials are starting to roll out, and General Motors (GM) hits fast with its iteration starring funny man Will Ferrell.
The premise is hilariously simple and accurate: Norway is buying more electric vehicles per capita than the United States. Ferrell realizes this and won’t have it, so he recruits his friend and fellow SNL player Kenan Thompson to join in on the fight. The commercial also features actress and Golden Globe award winner Awkwafina as they race to show Norway – or where they think is Norway – who’s boss.
The commercial is an advertisement for General Motors’s claim that the automotive conglomerate will introduce 30 new EVs by 2025. According to GM, electric cars make up less than 4% of the market share in the United States. In Norway, on the other hand, EVs make up about 50% of automotive vehicle sales.
Ferrell even comments on his experiences with EVs: “I’ve been driving an EV since the mid-80s…well, actually it was a regular car with four AA batteries taped to the carburetor, but it felt like an EV! We’re coming for you, Norway!”
Watch “No way, Norway!” and in other EV news, Faraday Future plans to go public and raise $1 billion USD.
