'Tom & Jerry' Surprisingly Tops Box Office in Opening Weekend
The live-action adaptation leads with $13.7 million USD.
Tom & Jerry‘s new live-action film has taken the number-one spot at the box office in its opening weekend. Back in November, the movie’s trailer revealed that it would be a hybrid live-action-animated production, and it seems the film is exceeding expectations.
Earning roughly $13.7 million USD, it’s a big start for a movie released during the pandemic. This number is especially surprising given the movie was also released on HBO Max. The Croods: A New Age, another animated movie, trailed behind in second place, earning $1.2 million USD over the weekend, followed by The Little Things in third place, with $925,000 USD.
In this adaptation, Jerry appears in a prestigious hotel in New York City just as a high-profile wedding is about to take place. Alarming the event planner, she hires Tom to get rid of Jerry, but everything escalates into chaos, jeopardizing the wedding and the hotel itself. Chloë Grace Moretz, Michael Peña, Colin Jost, Rob Delaney and Ken Jeong are but a few names starring in the film.
In case you missed it, Disney and Pixar have unveiled the trailer for the new animated film Luca.
